Ferryhawk comes from two inspirations: the ferryman character from Hermann Hesse’s “Siddhartha” and my name, Gavin, which means hawk. I have an associate license in Marriage and Family Therapy in South Carolina. I’m a surfer, climber, forager, and wilderness EMT and find great medicine in nature and exertion. Let’s get immersed and find your medicine for healing…
Experiences that have shaped me:
Service in the military.
I was fortunate to spend most of my four years of active duty deployed to Japan and the Persian Gulf. I experienced cultures and ways of life that were eye opening. I moved on with a passion to make a difference for our planet.
Teaching.
In training to manage and engage with large groups of students, I learned some soft and hard skills to help direct attention and focus while providing creative and challenging experiences. Ask me about breathing fire!
Parenting.
Being responsible for my own two children in a chosen capacity of bilingual homeschooling while focusing on sustainability through permaculture taught me that I can’t do it all! Parenting humbles me.
Physical exertion.
Some of my most memorable experiences were doing very demanding things. Pushing limits and finding those edges, we feel alive. To amplify these types of experiences, we add community. Facing challenges together is what humans were born to do.
Just breathe.
I find it hard to put into words the power of breathwork. I have been practicing various styles for years and have had some monumental and mystical experiences. Let me tell you about the cave in Zion or the circular room in the Poconos…
Loss and despair.
I don’t sugar coat our experience. Life is full of suffering. It’s about how we frame our perspective and what we understand as our realm of control that allow us to make the best of the suffering and find fulfillment.
